Clay Facial Spa Procedure

Clay is a wonderful way to introduce a new, personalized treatment into your salon or create your own day spa at home! Making up a skin care treatment is simple and keeps you in control of the exact ingredients you use.

1. Cleanse skin with your cleanser.

2. Tone skin with hydrosol:
a. German Chamomile–Anti inflammatory, gentle and calming.
b. Lavender–All skins, including mildly blemished skin.
c. Orange Flower-Helps to balance oily skin.
d. Rose–All skins, particularly sensitive or mature.
e. Rosemary–Refreshing and stimulating for normal to oily skin.
f. Watermelon–Cooling, toning and soothing.
g. Witch Hazel–Slightly more astringent and stimulating, suitable for sallow or tired skin.
h. Manuka-Excellent for troubled skin.
i. Eucalyptus-Helpful for troubled skin.
j. Neroli-Lovely in cleansing products.

3. Mix 1 level tablespoon clay to a thick paste with hydrosol. Use as an exfoliant. Massage into the skin, wetting fingers to aid manipulation. The fine grains in the clay will gently exfoliate the dead skin cells. Allow to dry. The drying action of the clay (green being the most absorbent) will absorb toxins and draw impurities to the surface of the skin (this will help extraction).

4. Wash mask away with water.

5. Apply cool compress with one drop Lavender oil or spray face with hydrosol of choice.

OR

6. You can apply different clays to different parts of your face for example red clay around the eye area, pink on the cheeks and green on the oily “T”.

7. Remove clay with hot towels or water and finish with a hot aromatic compress.

8. Massage the skin using Jojoba oil (known for its soothing nature and compatibility to the skin) and a selection of essential oils at 1% dilution levels.

Clay Hair Treatment

For an alternative hair treatment, mix the clay with water, add your selection of essential oils (depending on the hair type) and coat wet hair and scalp with clay. Leave to dry and shampoo out (it is not necessary to shampoo beforehand). The white clay or moroccan red is excellent to help scalp conditions and greasy hair.

As a hair mask, it soaks up dirt, cleans hair and scalp. Its antiseptic capabilities stimulate blood microcirculation and gives volume to hair. Wash the clay out thoroughly. For best results use twice a week.

General directions for use

In a glass/porcelain bowl mix 2-4 teaspoons with a hydrosol or water (do not use metal in contact with clay as this detracts from the benefits of the clay). Make a paste to suit your preferred consistency, the thicker the paste the better the action.

If any clay is left over after use, it will stay fresh in a screw top glass jar for up to two weeks. Cover with 2cm of distilled water to keep moist and pour off water before using with your next application. Do not re-use used clay.

As a face pack leave in place for up to thirty minutes or until pack starts to firm and dry, then wash off thoroughly.

For body care mix clay and apply all over the body. Allow to dry, then shower off, following with your favourite body care oil.

Pet Care with Herbs

Animals, especially household pets such as cats and dogs benefit from a change in diet once in a while, especially one that is additive free and natural. Animals with skin problems, allergies, diabetes, kidney and liver problems will all benefit from a more natural food diet.

Stop That Scratching!
Flea treatment for cats and dogs is most effective using essential oil of Ti – Tree. For cats, dilute Ti – Tree into a carrier oil (Calendula is great) and rub into area at the back of the neck and base of tail twice weekly. Dilution rate is 34 – 40 drops to 50ml carrier oil. (20 drops = 1ml approx.) For dogs, Ti – Tree may be used diluted, or used in the final rinse water after shampooing. 5 – 6 drops Ti – Tree in tub of clean water, Ti – Tree may also be added to your pets shampoo for effective flea control. 34 – 40 drops to 250ml shampoo. Shake bottle well before use.

Ti – Tree is anti – fungal and a great dissolver of pus, so is the number one choice for animal to animal bites and for wounds that become infected. Abscesses may be avoided completely or cleaned up by using Ti – Tree. May be used neat to wound or diluted in water (warm) to bathe wounds. Also great for ringworm and sores – for mudrash in horses and for lice in horses and goats etc. Use in strong solutions in a shampoo for lice treatment, for mudrash, combine with cider vinegar and dab onto affected areas. Ti – Tree diluted in warm water in an atomizer bottle may be used to disinfect kennels, cages and bedding areas. Ti – Tree is now the choice of the Australian debt of Agriculture for the washes required for all animals entering Australia.

Calendula is another most valuable herb for use in animal treatments. It is available as a tincture, an oil, an ointment, and pure essential oil. The tincture is effective for the bathing of wounds that are dirty. The oil is amazing for regenerating new cell growth in open wounds. Do not use on infected wound sites or abscesses, (clean up with Ti – Tree first) and then use calendula to close and heal the wound. It heals quickly and is extremely safe in any area. Great for skin problems, eczema’s, hot spots, rashes, cut pads etc. for major rips and tears, soak wound with calendula oil and cover with gauze or muslin and bandage to hold fleshy parts together. Healing is rapid and calendula eases the pain. May also be used to heal stitch lines, to minimize scar tissue and to promote rapid granulation in any wound site.
